Computer Science one of three new English Master's programs at KIT
In a globalized world, a confident command of English is essential. Studying in the world's most important scientific and business language offers the opportunity to consistently develop and expand corresponding skills. With the start of the summer semester 2025, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is expanding its range of English-language courses with three new Master's degree programs: "Mechatronics and Information Technology", "Electrical Engineering and Information Technology" and "Computer Science". KIT is thus pushing ahead with its internationalization.
English-language degree programs are a decisive offer for different target groups. They attract both German-speaking students who want to pursue an international career and English-speaking students from all over the world.
"In order to be perceived as an internationally active institution in a diverse educational landscape and to be attractive to as many talents as possible, an English-language study program is essential," says Professor Jan S. Hesthaven, President of KIT. "A large part of the exchange in science and the working world takes place in English. Diversity is a driver of creativity and innovation. It is our task and duty to prepare students for this in the best possible way, regardless of which path they take after graduation."
One in five students from abroad
At the start of the summer semester on April 22, 2025, three new Master's degree programs will be launched at KIT. "Electrical Engineering and Information Technology" and "Mechatronics and Information Technology" will replace the previous German-language Master's degree programs "Electrical Engineering and Information Technology" and "Mechatronics and Information Technology". The latter is the most sought-after Master's course in the field of mechatronics in Germany. "Computer Science" takes place parallel to the existing German-language Master's program "Computer Science" and complements the offer of the KIT Faculty of Computer Science.
In total, KIT now offers one Bachelor's degree program, 15 Master's degree programs and five doctoral programs entirely in English. With these offers, KIT is increasingly attracting foreign students and is continuing its international orientation. In the winter semester 2024/25, around 5,250 of the almost 22,750 students at KIT came from abroad - that is more than one in five students.
